Chris Mason, Motor Codes (Managing Director)
Chris Mason is managing director of Motor Codes – the government-backed self-regulatory body for the automotive industry.
With a wealth of experience in consumer affairs and regulation, combined with a successful career working in franchised and independent garages, Chris has spent the last ten years steering the development of the Motor Industry Codes of Practice and gaining full OFT approval for the New Car and Service and Repair codes. This government endorsement provides motorists with the reassurance that, through Motor Codes, they can choose a garage that they can trust.
John Jackson, Chevron Lubricants (Manager Distributors, UK & Export)
With over 14 years experience at Chevron, John has spent his career working in the oil and lubrication business.
Responsible for a huge geographic distribution network, that covers the UK and Ireland, Russia, West Africa and the Balkans, John is responsible for $12 Million of revenue and 8 million litres of lubricant sales in the UK.
Despite this responsibility he still makes time to visit independent garages to better understand their businesses. "The next few years will be challenging for many workshops" said John, "I'll be looking for business who are looking to thrive, not just survive. I believe it's about differentiating yourself and adding value to your service - be it improved customer care or the products you stock.&#quot;
Peter Lawton, CAT Magazine (Editor)
Peter Lawton started his motoring media career with Commercial Motor before joining What Car? in 2001.
For the past decade and more he has passionately believed in the price and quality benefits which independent workshops can bring to motorists, and has worked to increase consumer awareness of their role in the motoring landscape.
Now Editor of Car and Accessory Trader, the automotive aftermarket's leading title, Peter continues to champion the cause of independent workshops from a business perspective.
He is dedicated to ensuring the success and growth of the 9000 independent garages which read CAT, and is honoured to be taking part in the Motor Codes Garage of the Year competition.
Ken Gibson, Sun Motors (Editor)
Ken is one of the best ambassadors for motoring and the UK car industry. He is passionate about all things automotive - from new car design, manufacturing and motorsports, as well as the service and repair sector.
He is looknig forward to his involvement with Motor Codes, as he believes it gives motorists a comprehensive, nationwide network of garages they can trust.
Ken has worked in the newspaper industry for 42 years, beginning his jounalistic career as a 12-year old providing football reports for his local paper, the Hexham Courant. At 16, he joined the paper full-time as a junior reporter.
In his early career, he covered business, industry and local sports stories, before focusing on motoring 21 years ago when he joined The Sun.
Emma Butcher, What Car? (Consumer Editor)
Emma Butcher is consumer editor of car buyer's guide, What Car? and her first priority is to help Britain's motorists get the best value and the best service from their dealers and garages.
She knows a thing or two about what makes a great garage, having previously edited business magazines for the car repair industry and campaigned for higher customer service standards at every workshop.
