  • Regular servicing of your vehicle is essential to ensure maximum operational efficiency. Oil grades can play a significant role in fuel consumption. Switching to an oil grade with a lower viscosity (within manufacturers guidelines) can benefit consumption. Fuel economy is not necessarily restricted to the engine either. Any mechanical imperfection can cause drag and increase fuel consumption. Make sure you use a reputable garage by using the Garage Finder.
  • Keeping tyre pressures at their recommended level can not only save fuel but also improve the ride and handling of your car. Low tyre pressures increase rolling resistance and can wear unevenly reducing their lifespan and affecting handling.
  • Reading the road ahead and anticipating actions of other motorists can help make you a more efficient and safer driver. By maintaining a steady road speed and maintaining awareness of potential hazards, fewer braking inputs are required, thus reducing the need for fuel consuming bursts of acceleration.
  • As drag can have a significant impact on fuel consumption, removing roof racks and keeping windows closed can contribute significantly to saving fuel. At high speed, air-conditioning is a more efficient option than opening windows, but the reverse is true at town speeds.
  • Removing excess weight from a vehicle is a cheap and easy way to reduce fuel consumption. Non-essential items should be left behind as they add unnecessary weight and use additional fuel to carry around.
